The judiciary has ordered the preventive detention of a man who tried to steal a car while threatening passengers with a gun in Paderna (Albufeira), as well as a house in the Tunes (Silves) area, the public ministry said.
The 71-year-old detainee was charged with two crimes – attempted theft after failing to steal a car and its passengers, or stealing a house with another person and in which the owners were attacked, police said. This is stated in a statement by the Faro District Attorney’s Office.
The Faro Prosecutor’s Office specified that “on May 19, 2023, at around 15:00, in a parking lot in the Paderne district, a detainee armed with a pistol sat in the back seat of a car where the driver was already a passenger” and threatened the people in the car with a pistol, ordering them to leave the place incidents.
“The driver started to leave and immediately honked to warn passers-by. Meanwhile, the passenger got out of the car. On May 26, a man again tried to rob an isolated house in Tunes, Silves municipality, “accompanied by another person” and wearing a balaclava, the public ministry said.
