The Israeli military said there was a shootout near the Egyptian border this Saturday, shortly after three soldiers were killed in an incident in a security zone by an Egyptian policeman, Reuters reported. It is still unclear whether the incidents are related to each other and with whom the military exchanged fire.
Israel Army Radio has already reported that at least one militant opened fire on Israeli forces near the border with Egypt, where three Israelis were killed, while security forces acted to prevent smuggling.
“This morning, a security incident occurred in the region of the Paran Regional Brigade. Two IDF soldiers, a man and a woman, were killed by live fire near the border. The incident is being analyzed. The IDF is conducting searches in the area,” the military said in a statement.
