The PS Secretary General said this Saturday that one of the priorities of the National Health Service (SNS) is to extend the hours of operation of medical centers, better equip them and provide them with more human resources to reduce the burden of emergency care in hospitals.
“The priority of priorities is obviously primary health care, because we need primary care that is more accessible and with more available hours, because this is the first condition for better preventive monitoring of health risks and less burden on emergency hospitals,” – he said. António Costa at the opening of the PS National Commission in Matosinhos, Porto region.
The Socialist leader argued for the need to extend the opening hours of medical centers, make them more accessible, better equipped, and ensure that human resources are “fully motivated”.
“All of us who have had or have children are well aware that one of the main reasons we go or go to emergency rooms in hospitals is because we do not have a medical center open when we need it. “, he gave an example.
According to the Prime Minister, changes in the SNS are already being felt, namely after the creation of the SNS Executive Board, headed by Fernando Araujo, which allows for the integrated management of hospital resources.
“Now we must take the second step, which is related to the transition to a regime of full commitment of medical careers in primary health care, as well as in hospital care,” he stressed.
And, therefore, the goal is to extend the Type B model to all family health units by the end of this year, linking higher wages and careers to better health and more services to users, he stressed.
He added: “Along with full dedication through the extension of the Family Health Unit (FH) type B model throughout the country this year, we must move forward with the establishment of integrated responsibility centers at the hospital level.” .
