The Portuguese party Livre was elected as a member of the European Greens in a vote held on Saturday in Vienna, which also allowed People-Animals-Natureza (PAN) to join as an associate member.
The officially confirmed membership of the two Portuguese parties was accepted at the 37th congress of the European Green Party, which ended on Saturday in Vienna.
The Free Party statement explained that 89.7% of European Green Party members voted in favor, 6% abstained and 4.3% voted against.
“In Portugal, Livre will be the only full member of the European Green Party with an autonomous strategy that stands alone in elections and which, like the Greens, defends European integration and the democratization of the European project,” the party says. .
On the social network Twitter, the MP and PAN representative also welcomed her entry into the ranks of the European Greens in the status of an associate member, with 91.7% of the vote in favor, 3.3% against and 5% abstention.
“Progressive Europe is a green Europe, which now also includes the animal principle in its DNA,” wrote Ines Souza-Real.
Until now, the European Green Party has had only one Portuguese political force: the Ecological Party Os Verdes (PEV), which lost its representation in the Assembly of the Republic in 2022.
