Russia and Ukraine went to the Security Council on Tuesday to blame each other for destroying the Novaya Kakhovka Dam, with Moscow saying it had already warned of Kiev’s plans, which in turn denied the allegations.
“On the night of June 6, the Kiev regime committed an unthinkable crime by blowing up the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, as a result of which there was an uncontrolled discharge of water into the Dnieper River,” Vasily Nebenzya, Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, said at the meeting. Security Council is urgently scheduled.
The Russian diplomat accused the Ukrainian authorities of planning an attack on this infrastructure located in the area under the control of Russian troops last year, and expressed regret that the Security Council did not act on these warnings.
