An image of Christ the Redeemer “holding” the moon, taken by Brazilian photographer Leonardo Sens, is going viral on social media. The photo was taken this Sunday morning in Praia de Icarai in Rio de Janeiro, 11 kilometers from where the most famous statue in Brazil is located.
To get the perfect image, Leonardo studied the position of the moon for three years. The goal was to calculate the exact moment when the satellite would align with Christ the Redeemer. Speaking to the O Globo newspaper, the photographer explained that he used the apps to find out the date and time.
However, Leonardo Sanz depended on more than just the perfect moment. He also needed the weather to cooperate. On Saturday, the 3rd, the cloudy sky disturbed the photographer, but on Sunday the recording was still made. “The next day the weather improved and I went to the site early, at the scheduled time. All I had to do was set up my tripod and wait for the moon to align. (…) In the end, everything went well, and I managed. to take the long-awaited photo,” he explained to Leonardo to the Rio newspaper.
The photos were posted to the Instagram account and gained over 100,000 likes in a matter of hours.
