US allocates $149 million to $601 million to fight ISIS

The head of American diplomacy announced today the allocation of about 149 million dollars (nearly 139 million euros) in a fund of 601 million intended to fight the “jihadist” group “Islamic State” and stabilize the situation in Syria and Iraq.

“Today we announced dedicated funding for the Stabilization Campaign of just over $601 million. […] The United States is contributing $148.7 million to this fund,” Anthony Blinken said at a meeting of the 84-member international coalition against the Islamic State in Riyadh, the Saudi capital.

Blinken also stated that the war against the terrorist group is “not over” and for final defeat it is necessary to “help stabilize Iraq and Syria” by supporting economic development plans as the extremist organization feeds on “hopelessness” due to “insecurity, the difficult humanitarian situation and the shortage of economic opportunities.”
