Abdelmasih H., 31, attacked six people at a playground in Annecy, France. Among the victims are four children aged 22 months to three years.
According to Le Figaro, Abdelmasih H. was born on October 1, 1991 in Syria and received refugee status in Sweden, where he has been living since 2013.
He married a Swedish woman, with whom he has a three-year-old son. Divorced in 2022, and according to his ex-wife who spoke to AFP, the attacker left Sweden because he was unable to obtain Swedish citizenship.
According to prosecutor Line Bonnet-Mathis, the man arrived in France last year, where he lived as a homeless person. Prior to the attack, he was not known to the police and had no identified psychiatric history.
According to AFP, during the attack, the man shouted in English: “In the name of Jesus Christ.” When he was arrested, he wore a Christian cross and introduced himself as a “Christian from Syria”.
