Pope Francis this Sunday urged European Catholic politicians to face new challenges, such as migration “in accordance with the great guiding principle” of “human brotherhood”, in a message sent this Sunday to the convention of the European People’s Party (EPP) in Rome.
In his message, sent from the hospital where he is hospitalized, Francis gives some advice to European parliamentarians and, in particular, to Christian politicians, who, as he defended, “should be distinguished by the seriousness with which they approach issues, rejecting opportunistic decisions and remaining always true criteria for the dignity of the individual and the common good.
Recalling his last trip to Hungary, the Pope referred to “a Europe which fully appreciates the various constituents of its cultures, its wealth of traditions, languages and identities belonging to its peoples and its history”, but which “is at the same time capable with its institutions and through our political and cultural initiatives to turn this rich mosaic into coherent figures.”
