Angolan businesswoman Isabel dos Santos said in an interview Tuesday that she feels “politically persecuted” by current Angolan President João Lourenço, whom she also accuses of failing to uphold the separation of powers and stipulate justice.
“There is no doubt that we are facing a scenario of political persecution, and looking at Angola and our legal system, it is easy to understand that the Attorney General of the Republic receives orders directly from the president, that is, unlike some countries,” said Isabelle dos Santos in an interview with TVI/CNN.
Isabel dos Santos believes that there is no separation of powers in Angola and accuses Pitra Grosha, Attorney General of the Republic, of taking orders from João Lourenço.
“The prosecutor, General Pitra Gros, takes orders directly from General Lourenço, from President João Lourenço,” he accused, adding that the Angolan leader “uses the law to wage war, uses state and public institutions, uses his own courts and uses the law to fight with the enemy. An economic adversary and a political adversary,” he stressed.
This, he says, is the reason for what he considers the “political persecution” that he claims is being pursued, namely to keep “other voices out of politics in Angola”.
As for Portugal, Isabelle dos Santos says that no government has asked her to invest in the country.
“I have always worked with business contacts,” he said, reiterating that his relationship with Portugal “has always been based on private investment” with Portuguese businessmen.
When asked about her connection with Russia, Isabelle dos Santos spoke about the culture and history of this country, and when asked if she was thinking about moving to Russia, Isabelle dos Santos answered only that she had a “special attachment” to this country.
“I have a special affection because this is my mother’s land. Therefore, this is a place where I have a family and which I respect a lot, with a phenomenal culture,” he said.
Regarding the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, he replied that he hoped that the conflict would be resolved.
“Peace is important for everyone,” he concluded.
