Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that Kyiv’s losses in its counteroffensive on Moscow were close to “catastrophic.” “The enemy has not been successful in any direction,” added the Russian leader, quoted by AFP, noting that Russia suffered “10 times fewer losses than the losses of the Ukrainian armed forces.”
Months later, Ukraine launched an offensive to retake territory from Russian forces, following a series of attacks on Russian territory, including in the Belgorod border region, claiming its first conquest this weekend and a second on Monday, while Russia said it she repelled all attacks.
“This is a massive counter-offensive using strategic reserves prepared for this task,” Putin said, suggesting that “they could have foreseen that the enemy would behave in this way, and we could better prepare.”
