This Saturday, the National Republican Guard (GNR) took part in a search and rescue operation of 82 migrants off the coast of Crotone, Italy. The joint action called “THEMIS 2023” took place in coordination with the MRCC Roma and the vessel from Gaurdía Costiera.
According to the GNR statement, the Italian authorities raised the alert for the sailboat suspected of transporting migrants around 20:50 and the GNR coastal patrol boat Bojador was activated.
“At 4:30 the ship was discovered. Around 5:00 a.m., migrants were transferred to the ship Guardia Costierawhile the LPC Bojador, along with the merchant vessel, helped in an attempt to guarantee protection during the rescue maneuvers given the rough seas,” the GNR said in a statement.
The work was completed at 12:10 with a safe arrival at the port of Rochella-Honica.
