The Independent Union of Physicians (SIM) admitted this Sunday that it will go on strike if the government does not present a “concrete, serious and responsible proposal” on the salary scale for doctors by the end of June.
“Despite all the accessibility that the union has shown in seeking to avoid as much as possible the use of forms of protest, such as a strike, which harms people who already have great difficulty accessing healthcare, the truth is that if there is no concrete proposal, there will be no other solution other than to develop this type of protest,” SIM president Jorge Roque da Cunha told Lusa.
According to the SIM, last year a protocol was signed between the government and trade unions, which contained an obligation to reach an agreement by June 30, 2023 on a number of situations, namely, the restoration of the purchasing power of doctors, that is, salaries.
