The national exam season for secondary education begins this Monday with the 12th grade Portuguese language exam, when teachers’ unions go on strike for final student assessment, subject to the provision of minimum services by arbitration.
In addition to the 12th Grade Portuguese National Exam, 11th Grade Mandarin and Italian exams are also scheduled this Monday, as well as a Portuguese Second Language Final Test for 9th Grade students.
At the end of May, the trade union platform, which brings together nine structures representing teachers, including two federations – FNE and Fenprof – announced strikes in connection with national exams and final grades, and on the same day the Ministry of Education responded to the announcement with a different request for minimal services.
The strike is part of the teachers’ ongoing fight to restore their still-frozen tenure, which currently stands at six years, six months and 23 days.
On June 7, the Ministry of Education announced that the arbitration court determined the minimum services for final grades in 9th, 11th and 12th grades and for the final math test for 9th grade on June 16th.
In a written response to Luce, a source from the Ministry of Education explains that the notice from the Directorate General of Administration and Public Employment (DGAEP) states that the establishment of minimum services applies to the final grades of 9th, 11th and 12th grades. grades, .. years of study, as well as “all procedures leading to such grades”, and the final test of the 9th year of the cycle of mathematics.
However, the unions filed an appeal with the Court of Appeal to challenge the legality of the minimum services enacted.
