Infrastructure Minister Joao Galamba today admitted that the social internet tariff is insufficient and indicated that the government is working to revise it.
“We recognize the lack of coverage of, shall we say, the social tariff,” the official said during a regimental hearing this morning in the committee on economy, public works, planning and housing in parliament.
João Galamba acknowledged that “this measure needs to be reviewed” and “improved” and ensured that the executive branch is “working on it.”
The Social Internet Tariff, targeted at low-income consumers, came into force in January 2022 and is intended to guarantee access to broadband, fixed or mobile Internet services.
