The government has ordered the closure of the Leiria nightclub due to public safety concerns.

The Minister of the Interior determined the closure for six months of the Mandarim nightclub in Leiria for reasons of public safety, revealed this ministry, which is under the control of José Luis Carneiro.

The Ministry of the Interior (MAI) says the decision was made following a closure proposal submitted by the Public Security Police (PSP) following public disturbances.

These acts of violence were recorded in the “inner and outer space” of the nightclub, the last of which was recorded on Sunday, when there were “attacks on citizens by security personnel” of the mandarim.

The Minister of the Interior received an official communication from the mayor of Leiria, Gonçalo López, on the matter, mentioning that the incident had caused “public alarm and suggesting that the necessary measures be taken to avoid the danger of disturbing the peace.” peace, public order and security,” the ministry’s press release said.

“In support of this decision, the PSP presented a report on the incidents that have occurred over the past three years at this location and was heard by the President of the Municipality of Leiria,” the statement said.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs explains that the resumption of the work of this nightclub depends on compliance with the measures determined by the PSP to restore safety conditions on site and the normal functioning of the institution.

The Minister of the Interior also asked the National Office for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC) to verify that the fire safety standards in the buildings are met, and the municipality of Leiria to verify that the planned capacity matches the size of the premises allocated to the institution. and related business hours.
