Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who was sentenced this Friday by the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) to be barred from running until 2030, said his ban is part of a grand left-wing maneuver aimed at paving the way for current president Lula da Silva Silva. . to be re-elected in 2026 with little or no challenge.
Even before the TSE was convicted by a vote of 5 to 2, Bolsonaro had already claimed that his trial was part of a plot by the left, backed by electoral justice, to give Lula da Silva another mandate from the WO, i.e. in the absence of an opponent.
“I think my disqualification conviction left Brazil in mourning, but someone is going to launch rockets, obviously. Lula will take the field in 2026 (the year of the next presidential election) to win by almost a margin, but they (electoral justice) they say it’s a democracy,” he said.
In Belo Horizonte, the capital of the state of Minas Gerais, the former ruler fulfilled his obligations to the allies shortly after he was declared ineligible by the TSE for using the powers of the President of the Republic to summon ambassadors from 40 countries last year, in the midst of presidential disputes. to the palace of Alvorada and surrounded by generals, they were condemned, without showing any evidence, that selective justice formulated a great deceit in order to remove him from power and give victory to Lula.
In later statements, after returning to Brasilia late that Friday evening, Jair Bolsonaro again attacked the TSE referees. He again said that the court has been after him for a long time and that the conviction is a way to remove him from the 2026 race and silence him about the allegations he made in 2018, when he was elected president in the second round, there were also electoral fraud. which prevented him from being elected in the first round.
“There is no doubt that this is persecution and a way to cover up what happened in the 2018 elections,” the ex-president said.
