The Prime Minister has submitted to the President of the Republic a proposal to dismiss Defense Minister Marco Capitan Ferreira at his own request, according to a note from António Costa’s office, published this Friday.
The note mentions that António Costa submitted to the President of the Republic a proposal for the dismissal of Marco Capitan Ferreira, “which was sent to him by the Minister of National Defense [Helena Carreiras]at his own request.”
Marco Capitan Ferreira has been Minister of Defense since the establishment of the current socialist government with an absolute majority.
Recently, the Minister of Defense has been involved in controversy. The first was discovered in June morning Post. The news reports that Marco Capitan Ferreira took 50,000 euros for a four-day consultation.
Captain Ferreira signed a contract with the Directorate General of National Defense Resources (DGRDN) on March 25, 2019. The term of the contract was 60 days, but after four days it was completed.
The Liberal Initiative has already asked the Ministry of Defense whether Marco Capitan Ferreira has accumulated these functions, asking whether the statute of the public administrator has been violated.
On Sunday, the Accounts Chamber objected to Capt. Ferreira and said it did not have contracts for the maintenance of EH-101 helicopters, which were the subject of a consultancy contract from the Department of Defense.

This hearing, at Chega’s request, was approved by the parliamentary committee on national defense, with PS abstaining.
With the same vote, a request from the PSD was also approved to send documentation relating to this contract to the Parliamentary Defense Committee.
