The Supreme Court found that part of the Monte Branco beach in Murtos, which was claimed for years by two private individuals, can be used by any citizen, despite the fact that it is not part of the public domain.
At stake is an old dispute between the municipality of the Aveiro region and two brothers who claim to be the owners of the aforementioned land, except for an area of 11 meters of water, in the area known as Praia. do Monte Branco, located in Torreira.
The conflict began in 2007, when two brothers prevented local authorities from scattering sand on the beach by tearing curbs from the sidewalks and spreading them along the sand along with “acacia branches, other vegetation and debris”, thus preventing its public use.
