The measure, adopted this Monday, will allow “secure transfer of personal data from the EU to US companies participating in this system without the need to install additional data protection measures,” the community leader said in a statement.

This is because it has been proven that, given the commitments made by the US bloc a year ago, “the United States provides an adequate level of protection for personal data transferred, comparable to that of the EU,” the institution added.

US companies are expected to then be able to adhere to this EU-US data privacy framework and thus benefit from digital innovation, provided they commit to a detailed set of privacy obligations, such as erasing personal data. data when they are no longer needed for the purpose for which they were collected and to ensure continued protection when personal data is transferred to third parties.

Remedies will be available to people from the EU if their data is mishandled by US companies, such as free, independent dispute resolution mechanisms and an arbitration panel.

In addition, the legal framework provides guarantees for access to data, and an independent and impartial redress mechanism is in place for the collection and use of your data by US intelligence agencies.
