Foreign Minister Joao Gomes Cravinho on Tuesday met in Vilnius with Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya and predicted the fall of the current “dictator of Belarus” Alexander Lukashenko.
The head of Portuguese diplomacy took part in an event on the sidelines of the summit [da NATO]which began this Tuesday in the Lithuanian capital, with Tikhanovskaya in exile in that city and with her Icelandic colleague Thordis Gylfadottir to discuss Belarus’ role in European and Euro-Atlantic security.
In a written speech sent to Lusa, the head of Portuguese diplomacy praised the “courage and leadership over the past few years.” [de Tsikhanouskaya]carrying the torch of freedom,” as well as Siarhei Tsikhanouski (husband of the former 2020 presidential candidate) and other political prisoners who “are the heroes of democracy.”
