A Palestinian was shot dead by Israeli police on Friday after being attacked with a knife in a West Bank village, in an episode that precedes another violent incident with Israelis, a police spokesman said in a statement.

According to the statement, this afternoon “a Palestinian terrorist armed with a knife tried to rob an Israeli couple’s car” in Hawar, a city in the northern West Bank, where “he tried to stone the car.” , and later “shot dead” by the driver, an off-duty army officer who was carrying a gun.

The assailant then approached a nearby group of Israeli border police agents and “stabbed one of the agents in the face”, who was slightly injured.

Another police officer who arrived at the scene tried to stop the attacker, who “provided fierce and prolonged resistance and tried to take the pistol from the officer.”

In view of this, the agent “shot at the terrorist, neutralizing him” and thereby caused the death of the Palestinian, according to the police certificate.

A video released to the media and social media shows a fight between a young Palestinian and a police officer, the latter eventually drawing a gun and firing several shots, killing the young man.

For more than six months, the occupied West Bank has seen an intense escalation of violence, with repeated weekly violent incidents between Palestinians and Israeli forces.

With the death this Friday, already 11 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli shelling this week.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, 159 Palestinians have already died this year, many of them militias, as well as civilians and minors, in the West Bank, while on the Israeli side in 2022, 29 people died, 21 of whom were civilians. persons.

Israel took control of the West Bank in the 1967 Six Day War and has since held one of the longest military occupations in recent history.
