Ukraine’s president announced this Wednesday that he has received security guarantees, which are an “important sign” for the country’s rapprochement with NATO, and said he understands that talk of an invitation to join causes “some fear.”
“Ukraine has done everything we were asked to do to become a member of NATO. We don’t just want guarantees, we also want the security that we can get by joining NATO. It would be a definite success. for us,” Zelensky said.
“We understand that some people are afraid to talk about our membership because they are afraid of a world war, which is logical and understandable,” he said.
Zelensky also added that “there is positive news about support packages” promised by NATO member states and considered “important that Ukraine no longer needs a Membership Action Plan” as decided by the countries of the Atlantic Alliance.
