European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen told United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres on Thursday that the world “needs this organization more than ever” because of the “devastating effects” of the Ukrainian war.
“We both know that we can only solve problems through international cooperation and […] the world needs the United Nations now more than ever, [pelo que] I want to highlight the strong commitment of the European Union to our strong partnership,” said Ursula von der Leyen.
Speaking to the press room without question, at the start of a two-day high-level meeting in Brussels between the European Commission and UN leaders for closer cooperation, the community leader noted that “the world is facing challenges without precedent.”
