Authorities investigating Emil’s disappearance speculated that the boy was inside a bale of straw. This was one of the hypotheses put forward, as most farmers in this region of the French Alps currently harvest hay from farmland.
The machines used in the pressing process may have caught the boy, as sometimes happens with large animals. To rule out this hypothesis, a sort of high-resolution metal detector, commonly used by the army, was sent to the site.
All straw bales were analyzed by this equipment. Nothing has been found and the investigation is ongoing with no leads on the child’s whereabouts.
