At least two residents of Russia’s Belgorod region died on Monday, and a child was injured “in an emergency” on the Crimean bridge, Russian authorities said.
The couple died, and their daughter, who received minor injuries, will be immediately taken to Belgorod as soon as doctors allow it, Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said.
“In recent days, we have been sending our children to Crimean camps,” Gladkov said, assuring parents that the “life” of the children was not in danger.
Traffic on the main bridge connecting the Crimean peninsula with Russia was disrupted on Monday as local residents reported explosions, officials said.
The governor of Crimea, a peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014, announced the closure of the bridge without giving a reason.
Local residents reported hearing explosions before dawn, but there was no confirmation from the authorities, according to the Associated Press.
