On Monday, Chega informed the president of the republic that he would submit a no-confidence vote to the government at the beginning of the next legislative session, Andre Ventura told reporters, citing that the decision had already been made.
“Regardless of the decision that the President of the Republic decides to take or takes in the near future, Chega has decided that at the beginning of the next legislative session she will condemn the government in Parliament,” President Chega said at the Belen Palace in Lisbon.
“This is a decision that was already ours, and which we obviously reported to the President of the Republic, because we understand that this government no longer governs,” he added.
Andre Ventura spoke at the end of the meeting, which lasted about half an hour, between the delegation from Chega and the head of state, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, as part of a round of hearings for parties with parliamentary seats, which began Friday.
Chega’s president argued that “António Costa’s government has not solved a single structural problem in the past year” and accused the government of devoting itself to “the day-to-day running of affairs on the surface, just to protect itself and its ministers.” .
In April, Andre Ventura urged SDP President Luis Montenegro to submit a vote of no confidence to the government and promised that if this does not happen, Chega will come up with this initiative in early September, at the beginning of the next legislative session.
In a statement to journalists this Monday, President Chegi specifically noted that he had discussed with the President of the Republic “the political and party context”, and then added: “When it comes to questions of a party nature and party analysis, he will understand that I do not share these reflections. “.
In terms of government action, according to André Ventura, “The President of the Republic has set some priority dossiers and also set some goals: the implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), the problem of teachers, the problem of SNS (National Health Service).”
According to Deputy and President Chega, “None of this has been resolved and the implementation of the PDP continues at a very low level.”
On the other hand, André Ventura attributed to the government a position of “contempt for parliamentary democracy, contempt for control” due to the conclusions of the parliamentary commission of inquiry into the political tutelage of TAP’s governance.
On this occasion, President Chega took the opportunity to return to the topic of the searches at the residence of Rui Rio, the former chairman of the PSD, and at the national headquarters of this party, which he already spoke about this Monday in a conference press release, accusing the PS of wanting to use this opportunity to determine justice.
André Ventura, stating that Chega did not bring “specific cases” to an audience in Belém, said that he had conveyed “that concern” to the President of the Republic.
“It is important that in this situation the president of the republic pays the utmost attention,” he defended, stating that “the president is also concerned about this issue.”
Chega General Secretary Rui Paulo Sousa accompanied André Ventura to this audience at the Palacio de Belen.
Chega presented the government with a vote of no confidence at the start of that legislature’s first legislative session, which was defeated last July by votes against PS, PCP, BE, PAN and Livre and abstentions from PSD and the Liberal Initiative. .
In January of this year, still in this first legislative session, another vote of no confidence in the government, presented by the Liberal Initiative, was defeated, voted against by PS, PCP and Livre and abstained by PSD, Bloco de Esquerda and PAN.
The Rules of Procedure of the Assembly of the Republic established that if a vote of no confidence is not approved, the signatories may not introduce another one in the same legislative session.
The second legislative session of the current legislature will begin on 15 September.
