The Ukrainian Defense Contact Group on Tuesday stressed that Kyiv is making progress in its counter-offensive in Russian-occupied Ukrainian territory despite some delays due to demining work, rejecting a “failure” scenario.
“We see that Ukraine is moving forward, and Russia’s losses are growing. The United States and our allies and partners have moved mountains to provide Ukraine with critical defense systems, munitions and more,” US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said at a press conference following a virtual meeting of this group, of which Portugal is a part.
The US representative stressed that the contact group, which includes countries that have sent military assistance to Ukraine, “will do everything necessary” to support “Ukraine’s sovereign right to live in freedom.”
