Emile went missing for two and a half years on July 8 in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence region of France. The boy was playing at his grandparents’ house, in the village of Le Vernet, when he was no longer seen.
It all happened around 5:15 pm that Saturday. The family was about to go for a walk when they realized that the child was missing.
Emil is about 90 centimeters tall, with blond hair and brown eyes. When last seen, he was wearing a yellow T-shirt and white shorts with a green pattern.
Search for Emil
Within days of Emil’s disappearance, more than 800 people were mobilized, including the army, firefighters, police, a dog team, drones, 20 sniffer dog teams and 200 volunteers.
In search of the boy, two helicopters equipped with thermographic cameras flew over the city. The mother, Marie, recorded the voice message that was transmitted from the plane so that if Emil was lost, he could hear the voice.
The parents did not accompany the searches, did not make statements to the press, and never appeared in public. They are known to go to the village chapel every day to ask for divine intervention, and that family and friends react aggressively to the presence of journalists near the grandparents’ house (where Emil disappeared).
On July 13, the searches were suspended and a preliminary investigation was launched to establish the reasons for the disappearance.
This Tuesday, July 19, a judicial investigation into the disappearance of Emil was launched. The “complexity of the case” led to the opening of an investigation, according to a statement cited by BFMTV.
suspicions and theories
Several volunteers who participated in the search for Emil left their versions about the disappearance of the boy. According to a French newspaper 20 minutes, the hypothesis of abduction first arises. There are even those who say he may have been attacked by a wolf or hit by a car.
However, the version of those who believe that the father of the child had a “strange attitude” towards the search for the boy caused the most questions.
According to the Gallic press, some volunteers say that Colomban, a 26-year-old engineer, never showed emotion. On the contrary, the boy’s grandfather could not hold back his tears.
It is also known that the authorities used a high-resolution metal detector to search for Emil in the straw bales. Most of the farmers in this area of the Alps are currently harvesting hay from farmland and there is a possibility that the boy could have been caught by the machine in the process of baling.
closed village
Residents fear that the village will become a popular destination for tourists. In accordance with Le Figarothe councilor ordered that outsiders be banned from entering the village for another 15 days.
“My duty as mayor is to guarantee the peace of mind of my constituents and the family that is still in Verne, this is not a secret,” he said.
“There are no mushrooms, no animals, no supplies or anything that motivates them to go there but home,” the mayor added. Le Figaro.
Emil’s family
The boy’s family is known to all the inhabitants of the village for the fact that they have been spending their holidays in this area for about 20 years. According to a French newspaper La de PecheEmile lived with his parents in La Bouilladice, in the Bouches-du-Rhone region, 30 minutes from Marseille and 170 kilometers from Le Vernet. They used to live near Marseille.
Emil’s father, Colomban, was born into a Christian family and is the eldest of ten children. During the summer, they all gathered at their parents’ house, where they held various religious-inspired classical music concerts at the local church.
Interrogated parents
Marie was questioned by the authorities, but the content of the conversation is unknown. Information appeared on Twitter and on closed forums warning of a case that dates back to 2018: the boy’s parents could be involved in the beating of two young people in Marseille.
There is another line of investigation: the couple’s alleged connection to French far-right groups known in recent years for attacks on immigrants.
mother’s message
“The devil regularly took her up the mountain, but the angels brought her back.” Emile’s mother shared a message on social media in which she addresses Benoît Rencourel, a shepherdess who said she saw apparitions of the Virgin Mary between 1664 and 1718.
The woman has already shared her prayers for the child and for the shepherdess: “Let’s pray for Emile and for Benoit Renkurel.”
