Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday accused NATO member Poland of territorial ambitions against the former Soviet Union and said any aggression against Belarus would be considered an attack on Russia.
Poland moved troops to the east of the country on Wednesday after members of the Wagner group arrived in Belarus, the secretary of the state news agency PAP said, citing Reuters. The country denies any territorial ambitions towards Belarus.
The head of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, appeared on Wednesday in a released video welcoming his fighters to Belarus, saying that for the time being they would not participate in the war in Ukraine, but ordering them to raise forces for Africa by training the Belarusian army.
On Thursday, the Belarusian Defense Ministry reported that Wagner Group mercenaries had begun training special forces in a military camp a few kilometers from the Polish border.
