EasyJet said on Monday that participation in the flight attendants’ strike in Lisbon, Porto and Faro was 46%, but the union said it was around 90%.
“Lisbon, Porto and Faro join the strike today. [esta segunda-feira]so far it is 46%,” the company said in a statement published this afternoon.
According to easyJet, out of 126 scheduled flights, 120 were flown, representing 95% of the total.
Speaking to Lusa, Ricardo Penarroyas, president of the National Union of Civil Aviation Pilots (SNPVAC), said that commitment to the strike remains at 90%.
“The company, in addition to minimal services, has resorted to the services of flight and crew managers from other bases, namely from Faro, to fill the gaps at Lisbon and Porto airports,” he noted.
Faced with this scenario, the union filed a complaint with the Working Conditions Authority (ACT), hoping that “appropriate action” would be taken to penalize the company.
“We regret that this happened, given the respect we had and have for the company. Despite the “low cost” [baixo custo]had a different attitude towards workers than other “low-budget” ones,” he said.
The easyJet strike continues until Wednesday.
On July 6, easyJet’s offer was “rejected” by 90% of SNPVAC flight attendants, marking a strike.
The flight attendants say that conditions for the crew of the Portuguese bases are similar to the conditions of the bases in other countries.
