UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said this Wednesday in Kyiv that the suffering of millions of civilians across Ukraine “cannot become the new normal.”
Speaking in the Ukrainian capital after a four-day official visit to the country, Volker Türk said the level of damage and destruction he saw in Izyum was “shocking,” according to a statement released by the UN.
In Bush, north of Kyiv, where images of civilian corpses scattered across the streets, piled up, some charred, others dumped in mass graves, were shown shortly after the withdrawal of Russian troops, drawing international outrage, the UN High Commissioner said the trauma population “remains evident”.
