Two soldiers died Tuesday when a Brazilian Navy helicopter crashed in Formosa, a city in the interior of the Brazilian state of Goiás, 80 kilometers from Brasília. At least six other soldiers were wounded, four of them were taken to the Formosa Regional Hospital and two others, in a more serious condition, to the Hospital das Forças Armadas in Brasilia.
The plane crashed during an exercise in the Formosa military region for reasons that are still unclear. The 14 troops were in the UH-15 Super Cougar, which seats more than 30 people and is considered very safe, according to the Navy.
The accident happened on a Tuesday afternoon and the isolation of the Formosan military region made it difficult to communicate and get more details about the tragedy. The Navy also did not release further data, only the number of troops killed at the time of the strike, and said in a statement that only after an investigation could the cause of the accident be found out.
