Infarmed has suspended distribution of several shipments of glucose and saline, as well as intravenous antibiotics, due to contamination.
According to the National Medicines and Health Products Administration, a batch of isotonic glucose solution and another batch of normal saline are covered, as well as six batches of intravenous metronidazole Brown.
As explained in “Infarmed”, the decision was made after the discovery of “a quality defect associated with cross-contamination of containers for the primary packaging of drugs for infusion.”
In addition to immediately suspending distribution, Infarmed warns that organizations that have these batches of drugs in stock cannot sell, distribute or inject them and must return them.
Patients taking medicines belonging to these batches of medicines should not interrupt treatment, but should contact their doctor to replace it with another series or alternative medicine.
