It was announced this Sunday that over 14,000 “online” votes have decided that Febras, the music festival held in Briteiros, Guimarães, which has been forced to change its name, will be called Rock No Rio Febras.
In a statement, the organization also announced that the 2024 event will take place on July 20 and ensured that now Rock No Rio Febras “won’t stop being what it was and always will be.”
“Febras” was originally titled Rock In Rio Febras and was first released in 2022, but the company responsible for Rock in Rio Lisboa notified the organization of the name change, alleging brand misuse and unfair competition.
This year, in its second edition, the Guimarães festival has already adopted a different name, calling itself “The Rock Festival that takes place by the river Febras”, and has decided to vote on a new name for the event.
Five possible festival names were voted on: Rock No Rio Febras (26.31% of votes), Supre Rock Supre Febras (21.13% of votes), Rock Near (but not in) Rio Febras (22.13% of votes), Rockin ‘Rio Febras (20.88% of votes) and Rock Rio Febras (7.56% of votes).
“We decided to democratize the choice of a new Febras name (as if it was ever possible to stop being what they were and always will be),” the statement released this Sunday said.
Optimistic, the organization of the event, led by Casa do Povo de Briteiros, admits that it is “obsolete” according to the results of the “online survey”: “Thank you to the 14,002 survey participants who contributed in 90 hours to ensure that Febras remains what it is: an open and decentralized event, in accordance with the name of Casa do Povo, which organizes it, ”the message says.
For the organization, “Febras is so much more than a name,” but, he admits, “you have to give him [nome]”.
“Let’s hope that this time there will be no discomfort to anyone. But if it does, then let it be as big as last time.”
The text also left words of gratitude for “the common sense shown by the majority of voters.”
“But we are in solidarity with those who have shown themselves to be supporters of chaos (in an internal poll, he won over many),” he is also mentioned.
Around 1,500 people attended the event in 2022, but the standoff with Rock In Rio Lisboa created a lot of interest in the festival, and the organization was forced to restrict access to the event due to space, security, and logistical reasons.
This year, about five thousand people marched along the banks of the Febras River.
