Lula da Silva to address the Angolan National Assembly

Brazilian President Lula da Silva will address the National Assembly of Angola on August 25 on the occasion of his two-day visit to the African country, Brazilian diplomacy said on Wednesday.

Luis Inácio Lula da Silva is scheduled to arrive in Luanda on August 24 or the next morning, the day he meets his Angolan counterpart João Lourenço for a private meeting.

After that, the Brazilian head of state “will make a speech” in the National Assembly of Angola, Brazilian Secretary for Africa and the Middle East Carlos Duarte said in response to a question from Lusa at a press conference at the Itamaraty Palace. in Brasilia.

On the same day, in the evening, the President of Brazil is to close the seminar with businessmen from both countries, Director of the Africa Department, Ambassador Ana Paula Simões Silva told Lusa on the sidelines of the event.

About 60 Brazilian businessmen from the food, pharmaceutical, agricultural and aviation industries, such as Embraer, will attend this development workshop.

On August 26, the president plans to visit the Guimarães Rosa Institute in Luanda, Brazil’s institute for cultural diplomacy and education, and a meeting with the Brazilian community in the country, said Ambassador Ana Paula Simões Silva.

During the visit, Carlos Duarte explained at a press conference, agreements on agriculture, data processing and support for small private entrepreneurs should be signed, which is of “great common interest for both countries.”

The projections also include memorandums of understanding in the fields of health and education.

“This is a country that has important relations with Brazil,” the secretary for Africa and the Brazilian Middle East emphasized, recalling that this country “was the first to recognize the independence of Angola.”

Lula da Silva will arrive in Angola after participating in the BRICS summit (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), which will be held from 22 to 24 August in Johannesburg.

After a visit to Angola, the President of Brazil will take part in the XIV Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), which will be held on August 27 in the capital of Sao Tome and Principe.
