Three people have died in New York, United States of America, in recent weeks due to an infection that spread through seawater and eating oysters, writes the North American newspaper. The newspaper “New York Times.
Bacterial infections
are rare, but carry a high risk.In a statement quoted by the same newspaper, New York’s health commissioner came on Wednesday to ask doctors and nurses to “be alert” to new cases, as “it’s not always the first diagnosis that comes to mind.”
James Macdonald has warned people with open wounds not to swim in sea water and has warned those with weakened immune systems to be careful when eating or handling raw shellfish.
