Brazilian hacker Walter Delgatti Neto, notorious for hacking into the mobile phone of Lava Hato’s former judge Sergio Moro years ago and publicizing the former magistrate’s illegal maneuvers to convict Lula da Silva, said this Thursday in a testimony to the Brazilian Congress that was called by then President Jair Bolsonaro to publicly feign that it is possible to invade polling stations and change the outcome of last year’s presidential election. Bolsonaro’s request, according to Delgatti, was made during a breakfast to which he was invited by the then President of the Republic last August, at the height of the October presidential campaign won by Lula da Silva.
Delgatti said he met Jair Bolsonaro twice at the official residence, the Palacio da Alvorada, and that the then head of state called him again to sort out the details. Statements by a hacker who also broke into the computer system of the highest court and went so far as to insert a false arrest warrant for Judge Alexandre de Moraes, Chairman of the TSE, the Supreme Electoral Court, dropped like a bomb on the Congressional Coup Conspiracy Inquiry, details and names have moved on.
Hacker claimed that Jair Bolsonaro asked him on September 7 last year, Brazil’s Independence Day, to use a copy of the ballot box in a public ceremony to mimic the flaws of the electoral system and justify the president’s meddling in electoral justice. Delgatti explained that Bolsonaro wanted him to insert false numbers into the ballot box as if they were being used by the High Electoral Court, which would make it so that when a key was pressed alluding to Jair Bolsonaro, the vote would be counted for Lula da Silva, thus thereby showing that the presidential election was rigged, and allowing him to annul the results if he lost, and the plan simply did not go through because it was partly leaked. Over the past year, Jair Bolsonaro has made many statements questioning the reliability of electronic voting machines and threatening to interfere in the TSE and, if he loses the presidential election, as happened, annul the result, reject Lula’s victory and declare himself the winner in order to be able to stay at authorities. Delgatti told deputies and senators this Thursday that Bolsonaro had guaranteed him a presidential pardon and absolute immunity if they accused him of anything, and that he went so far as to say that if any judge ordered his arrest (Delgatti), he (Bolsonaro) ordered the arrest of this judge.
