Mozambican police have arrested three suspected drug dealers in schools in the central city of Chimoyo, the ninth group of the alleged network to be deactivated in three months, an official told Lusa on Monday.
The suspects were detained as part of a special police operation in Manitsa aimed at curbing the growing trafficking of hard drugs, especially in schools and surrounding areas, including among children and teenagers, said Mateusz Mindu, spokesman for the provincial police department. Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in Manica.
“One and a half kilograms of marijuana and about 300 grams of heroin were confiscated from them, as well as syringes that they used to inject themselves and their clients,” Mateus Mindu explained.
Drug trafficking networks, the source continued, not only operate in small groups and infiltrate communities, but encourage students to bring drugs to school premises in exchange for drugs or a portion of cash sales.
According to Matheus Mindu, drugs are smuggled in various parts of Chimoyo, especially in schools, where the networks have explored the “vulnerable and potential market” of teenagers trying to get into the world of drugs.
“The deployment of multi-sectoral work continues to combat the network of drug trafficking, consumption and sale in Manica in order to completely eliminate the source of acquisition,” Mateusz Mindu said, stressing that the operation had already deactivated several groups.
Also, according to police, on Friday, three more people were arrested for possession of an unknown amount of heroin and dozens of bottles of counterfeit drinks that will be distributed in supermarkets in the provinces of Manica, Sofala and Tete.
On July 27, the police neutralized another group, suspected of supplying drugs to Escola Eduardo Mondlane students, which included students.
On July 14, in the Francisco Manyanga area, two other citizens were arrested for possession of 35 kilograms of cannabis sativa. There is a suspicion that the drug was produced in Gorongos.
On July 5, two other young men were arrested while in possession of 54 packages of heroin and seized 6,216 meticai (89 euros).
Two days earlier, on July 3, police arrested five more people, including three students, for drug trafficking and selling drugs at the Eduardo Mondlane school in Chimoio.
On June 8, two other young men were arrested at the scene of a crime in possession of heroin.
The police of Manica, forward Mateus Mindu, will continue the operation to suppress drug trafficking in the province.
