Even as a child, at the age of seven or eight, the passion for music manifested itself in Way Duarte. She heard her older sister sing Michael Jackson’s You’re Not Alone and asked what the song was.
“It was then that I realized that I love romantic music. I asked a neighbor for a few cassettes with video clips of Michael Jackson and fell in love, which sunk into my soul. I decided to become an artist from the moment I saw his performance,” says Way Duarte.
Influences are not limited to the King of Pop, they also include the Back Street Boys or N Sync where music meets dance. A passion for music already existed at home, where his father sang mornas.
“My father was born in Cape Verde, in a family of poets and singers. He played the guitar and sang morns, he had more than a hundred texts written on paper. At birthday parties and in restaurants all over the island of Luanda, he gave many concerts. It’s called singing. At home, we all tried to sing, write poetry, and I decided to follow this example, because this has always been my passion, but a lot of inspiration came from my father, ”says the singer.
His music can be found on digital platforms and he has performed in nightclubs, mainly in the north of the country.
“The topics that received the most positive responses were Amoré, a kind of romantic quiz, Mama, dedicated to my mother, and My Queen, a more pop song, more suited to my style. I’m a pop singer, pop romantic. the music video for My Queen was recorded at the Parque das Nações. It was a fun day. Also with the female influencer. We were still during the pandemic, in the final phase. There were few people on the street, which made our work easier. We took advantage of this river view and I think it turned out to be something good,” says Way Duarte, who, in the meantime, is preparing new topics for his list of performances.
Three singles and a video clip are also planned to be released this year. Next year he is already thinking about a mixtape or even an album. “More for symbolic reasons. So that there is physical work, so that people have a memory of the Way in their homes, ”the singer announces.
