Dutch Defense Minister Kaisa Ollongren estimated this Friday that it would take “about six or eight months” for the first Ukrainian pilots to fly F-16s before they go into combat against the Russian invasion.
The interim minister, who returned on Wednesday from a visit to Kiev where she discussed the supply of American fighter jets with President Volodymyr Zelensky’s government, explained that “Ukrainians have so far surprised positively”, “super motivated” and enthusiastic. “technically good”.
These circumstances, he added in an interview with Dutch television, allow “to be so optimistic and think that they will succeed in these six or eight months” of training, although it usually takes more time.
