Brazilian President Lula da Silva announced on Tuesday, August 29, the creation of another ministry of his government, which has already been criticized for its excessive size. The new body, the 38th body of federal executive power, will be the Ministry of Small and Medium Business, Cooperatives and Entrepreneurship.
Lula made the announcement on his usual weekly live stream on social media. According to the veteran ruler, not all Brazilians dream of a permanent job with a signed contract and prefer to get down to business and create their own company, and the central government has to think about them and create a body that will help them.
Despite the president’s arguments, the truth is that Lula was forced to create another ministry in order to succumb to the demands of the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira, the main supporter of the government of former President Jair Bolsonaro and who now demands that people trust the new government in exchange for helping to develop important measures for the executive branch. Unwilling to remove the ministers he had already appointed, Lula had no choice but to create another ministry, and this may not be the last, since Lira and the so-called “Centrao”, a group of parties without ideology, which he commanding and dominating the parliament, they are not going to be content with just a newly announced post.
Lyra, who repeatedly asked Lulu, dreamed of commanding the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Social Development, both with millions of dollars, but the president refused. In terms of social development, Lula is studying the dismemberment of the body, leaving the current owner and his 40-year-old friend Wellington Diaz in the social development portfolio, commanding major social programs such as the Bolsa Família, but splitting the ministry into creating a Ministry of Social Assistance that will take over everything other support functions.
In a curious situation, it is already known who at least two of the new ministers will be – federal deputies Andre Fufuka and Silvio Costa Filho, appointed by Arthur Lira. They were announced as ministers approved by the Minister of Political Articulation Alexandre Padilla two months ago, but due to the stalemate between Lira and Lula over what positions they would take, they have since been in the ridiculous situation of being ministers without knowing what.
