People’s Party (PP) President Alberto Nunez Feijoo asked the leader of the Socialist Party (PSOE), Pedro Sánchez, to support a two-year government and promised to hold elections in 2025.
Feihoo proposed an agreement whereby the legislature would have a maximum term of office of two years and proposed that “as a central matter” the list with the most votes could govern the country by promoting La Vos de Galicia.
The executive branch proposed by Feijoo, which would be composed of 15 ministries, pledged to “defend the territorial integrity of the Spanish nation” and rejected requests for an independence referendum and amnesty made by the independence parties.
The Spanish Socialist Party rejected the possibility of a right-wing minority government for two years and reaffirmed its intention to negotiate with independence supporters for a new leader led by Pedro Sanchez.
The PSOE “will not support Mr. Feijoo’s investiture,” Socialist spokeswoman Pilar Alegria said, referring to PP President (right) Alberto Nunez Feijoo.
The leader of the NP, who won the July 23 legislative election but lacks the majority support in parliament that would guarantee him an inauguration as prime minister, said this Wednesday that he had made an offer to PSOE leader Pedro Sánchez, an agreement under which the party, the one with the most votes will govern, as has always happened in Spanish democracy over the past 45 years, and which will put an end to the influence of Catalan and Basque independence supporters.
Feijoo and Sanchez met this Wednesday for the first time since the July elections.
