The government of Guinea-Bissau has reduced the retail price of diesel by 10 CFA francs and of petrol by 6 CFA francs, as announced in a joint message from the ministers of energy and finance.
The government’s move came after the recommendations of the Technical Commission on Monitoring and Reviewing Fuel, Oil and Natural Gas Prices (CSRP), which met last Wednesday, according to a report accessed by Lusa this Thursday.
Falling fuel prices lead to lower prices for public transport and also affect all economic activity in the country, according to the government decree, which also announces a ban on street sales of these products.
Until Wednesday, August 30, diesel fuel was bought at petrol stations at a price of 760 CFA francs per liter, and gasoline at 808 CFA francs.
The fuel price cut comes a week after the government lowered the price of 100% crushed rice, which rose from 22,500 CFA francs (34 euros) for each 50 kg bag to 17,500 CFA francs (about 26 euros).
The executive branch promises to reduce the prices of a number of other consumer goods in the Guinean market.
