United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres said this Thursday that he had sent a letter to the head of Russian diplomacy, Sergei Lavrov, with a number of proposals to restore the Black Sea Grain Agreement.
“In a letter that I sent to the Russian Foreign Minister, we presented a set of specific proposals (…) that allow us to create conditions for the resumption of the Black Sea Initiative. We believe this initiative makes a very important contribution to making food markets more in line with our food security goals,” Guterres told reporters at the UN Headquarters in New York.
According to the UN leader, “Russia’s requests” for the renewal of the agreement were taken into account, so the proposal presented could “become the basis for renewal, but a renewal that must be stable.”
