More than a ton of hashish in southern Portugal and another 2,700 kilograms of cocaine were seized in two anti-drug operations involving military and judicial police.
About 1.1 tons of hashish, three speedboats and 20 canisters of fuel. This was the result of an operation carried out at dawn on Friday by the National Maritime Authority, the Portuguese Navy and the Air Force in international waters 80 nautical miles, that is, about 148 kilometers south of Portugal. There were six crew members on board. All men of Spanish, French and Moroccan ethnicity between the ages of 24 and 48.
The second operation was carried out by Interpol with the support of the judicial police, during which more than 2.7 tons of cocaine were seized. An Albanian-based criminal structure operating in several countries that was smuggling large amounts of cocaine into Europe was dismantled. Portugal will be one of the gates. During “Operation Opatica”, seven people of different nationalities were arrested and large sums of money, property, vehicles and other items were confiscated. This operation made it possible to eliminate “an important criminal structure that operated in several countries and was engaged in sending large consignments of cocaine to Europe.”
