According to IPMA, the areas of Porto, Viana do Castelo and Braga will have a yellow warning this Monday and Tuesday due to the forecast for rain, sometimes heavy, accompanied by thunderstorms and hail.
According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the yellow warning for these three areas will be in effect from 21:00 Monday to 06:00 Tuesday.
A Yellow Alert is issued by IPMA whenever a weather-dependent risk situation arises for certain activities.
IPMA predicts precipitation, sometimes heavy, accompanied by hail and thunderstorms, at least until Tuesday.
The IPMA forecast prompted the National Emergency and Civil Protection Administration (ANEPC) to appeal to the public to take preventive action.
According to the ANEPC, typical transition season episodes with the first rains contribute to “the occurrence of urban flooding caused by the accumulation of rainwater due to clogged drainage systems.”
The Civil Defense also warned of the possibility of “flooding, exacerbated by the flooding of the course of certain watercourses, rivers and streams”, in addition to landslides and landslides “motivated by water intrusion, a phenomenon that can be potentiated by the removal of vegetation as a result of rural fires or artificial tillage” .
ANEPC also called for extra care when moving and staying near forested areas, paying attention to the possibility of falling branches and trees due to strong winds.
