This Thursday, Japan will deliver 617 tons of wheat flour to Cape Verde as part of the food aid regularly allocated to the country, the Cape Verdean government said.
“Part of the wheat flour assistance is offered by Japan as part of the KR2022 program” of the Japanese country’s food support to other countries at the global level.
In this case, agreements are celebrated annually by the exchange of notes between the two governments, and the wheat flour that will be delivered this Thursday corresponds to half of the total.
The remaining aid, in the form of rice, is scheduled to arrive in Cape Verde between November and December 2023.
On Monday, Cape Verde received another aid package.
To mitigate the impact of rising prices, China supplied 1,042 tons of rice worth 1.2 million euros, which will be distributed free of charge by social and health institutions.
According to the World Food Program (WFP), prolonged drought, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, disruption of supply chains and rising prices associated with the war in Ukraine were among the reasons that worsened food security in the country in 2022.
According to the UN agency, 46,000 people, about 10% of the population, suffered from severe food shortages during the growing season.
