A pipe rupture at the Portalegre hospital led to the flooding of some services this Monday and the partial collapse of two suspended ceilings, but this did not affect the clinical activities of the medical department, an administration source told Lusa.
According to the nursing director of the local health unit of Norte Alentejano (ULSNA), Jorge Marquez, the incident occurred around 7:30 am.
The person in charge reported that burst pipes in the sterilization service area caused flooding in that area and in one of the surgical departments (adjoining area), and also allowed water to enter areas such as the kitchen, dining room and laundry room.
“Cleaning work has been carried out, pipes are being repaired, as a result of the damage, in addition to penetration, two suspended ceilings, a staff canteen and a laundry room were damaged. There were no injuries,” he said, adding that the water had run out and the suspended ceilings were still in need of repair.
“The hospital’s patient and surgical operations were not affected, meaning there was no surgery, consultation or any other procedure that was delayed as a result of this situation,” he said.
