President Chegi formalized a vote of no confidence in the government this Friday and accused the PSD of being “titable, weak and dissolute” for announcing that it would abstain from voting.
Andre Ventura spoke to reporters at the Assembly of the Republic, where he announced that on the first day of the second legislative session, the party passed a long-declared vote of no confidence in the government.
“We do this with the awareness that the beginning of a new legislative session is always an anxious moment in the life of parliaments, but we also understand that there is an accumulation of situations that continue from the end of the legislative session and which cannot allow the political year to begin without a strong , firm and inevitable censorship by the government of António Costa,” he said.
The Chegi leader also reacted to the abstention announced on Thursday by PSD President Luis Montenegro, who described the text presented today as “childish and childish.”
In his response, Ventura complained about the “understatement, weakness and laxity of the PSD.”
“This is what is shocking, this is what offends, this is what makes it difficult to understand such an attitude,” he believes.
Ventura stressed that “there are some days” when he does not hear Luis Montenegro “saying that this government is no longer useful”, but “when he is a stubborn policeman, when a document reaches Parliament and it is necessary to decide whether he is no longer useful or not, the SDP decides to say that this proposal is useless and that now is not the time to bring about the fall of the government.”
“We are very sorry that at a time when this gave the President of the Republic a very strong signal that there were serried ranks on the right, convinced that this government must complete its functions, and at the same time a sign that we are ready to govern, that there is one of these parties, the SDP, which says the opposite of what is said every day on the street, namely: “this government must come to an end”,” he criticized.
Asked about the leadership of the proposal due to the socialist majority in parliament, Ventura replied: “We will therefore not make any changes to the state budget, because there is no chance that they will be approved. Therefore, we will not make any proposals to change the PS Proposal, because we know that they will not be approved. It’s childish to say that,” he said.
In Ventura’s view, such a position “shows parliament’s ignorance of the man who has been parliamentary leader for so long,” he said, referring to Luis Montenegro.
“I think that a vote of no confidence is primarily an act in which the bloc that believes that the government should cease its functions shows that it has an alternative, and at least this is an alternative, by declaring that this government is useless and that there must be another one,” he said.
Asked whether he felt responsible for the possible postponement of the first two-week debate with the prime minister in parliament, scheduled for the 27th, but which could be postponed due to the submission of a vote of no confidence, Ventura replied that “there is no more important thing.” supervisory authority.” government moment than a vote of no confidence.”
Ventura also said the no vote called by the PCP “doesn’t surprise” Chega, “but it doesn’t really matter anymore” and applauded the “courage” of the Liberal Initiative for saying it would vote in favor. .
